I guess this is my post to officially announce it to the world: I'm running the Boston Marathon.
Shit. That's weird to write.
I sometimes feel like I come up with these goals, things I want to do eventually in my life. And I have a feeling that due to fear or lack of time or some other bullshit excuse, I won't get many of them done.
I thought running Boston would be one of them.
But a few weeks ago, I got the email. The email that I had been accepted onto the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team, and that I would be running the 2013 Boston Marathon. I was floored and immediately humbled.
See, here's the thing. If I wanted to just run a marathon, I could run a marathon anywhere. But I want to run Boston. And I want to run Boston for Dana-Farber's cancer research. Cancer touches everyone. In all shapes. In kids, in men, in women. From middle-aged people to older people. It doesn't discriminate. And at some point in our lives, we're all going to have to deal with it in some aspect, be it ourselves, a family member, a colleague or a friend.
I'm not a doctor. I'm not a scientist. I'm just a girl who writes. So what can I really do to eliminate cancer? To find a cure? Not a whole lot. But I can run. And I can try to raise as much money as I can running.
So I'm running 26.2 miles on April 15th. And I'll be proudly rocking my Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge bib as I trek through.
And I have a small favor to ask you, and you'll probably hear it again many times in the next 5.5 months. Please, if you can, help me reach my fundraising goal of $6,000. Every little bit counts, and I greatly appreciate anything you can offer.
Of course, Toby also thanks you. He promises to give all of you kisses :)
I hope everyone has a beautiful weekend.
I'm crying a little.
