It's fitting that 14 weeks from the marathon, I completed my first 14 mile run. It's the longest run I've ever done. And while it's only one mile more than a half marathon, I'm so...amazed.
It's kind of ridiculous that my body can run 14 miles. Sure, I needed to stop and walk a few times. And some of the hills were really brutal. My splits were nothing to write home about, and were terribly, terribly positive. But you know what? I did it. I finished it. I ran for nearly three hours and didn't feel like complete shit when I finished. And I finished running. Which, quite honestly, is all I can ask for.
Of course now I'm starting to stress about fundraising. Will I have enough time to devote to work/this blog/training/cross-training/fundraising? Will I be able to do it? I honestly don't know at this point. And it's scary. But, at the end of the day, I will do my best. I will try my hardest. I will email everyone in my address book and I will talk incessantly about the marathon and Dana-Farber. Because I want to make a difference.
This marathon thing, it really is teaching me a lot about myself. And I think I really like the person I am now.

Yay for 14 miles! That is awesome. Oh my gosh, you are going to do amazing in this marathon, Alex! :)

DeleteGood for you! I remember when I was training for my first half last summer. I'd never run more than 5 miles, so any time I ran more than that, I was amazed. I can't wait to feel the same feeling when I run more than 13.1 while training for my first marathon this summer!
