We're in single digits guys! It's so close! Shit.
This week, I'd like to talk about running in the snow.
It's not impossible to run in the cold. You just need to be dressed properly. I highly recommend wearing fleece-lined tights and shirts when temps drop into the teens and single digits. I swear by those Under Armour tops. If it's extra cold or you want some more protection from the elements, through on a jacket or a vest. I generally opt for vests since my arms get REALLY hot. Keep gloves and hats or headbands handy. You need to keep those as warm as possible.
As for the snow, well...sometimes it's possible to run in the snow. If the snow is packed, and sidewalks are pretty clear, you should be good to go. If you're familiar with the area, you could even run in the road, but always run against traffic and turn your music waaay down. You don't want to be taken off guard by a car.
If it's slushy or icy, you might want to take a rest day or move your workout indoors. Slush and mushy snow can do a number on your knees, legs and ankles, and we all know what happens to moving objects on ice. Runs aren't worth it when you wind up injured. So don't feel guilty sitting out on a run if conditions are too dangerous.
